Susan G. Tataryn, BComm, CPA, CA, LLB, TEP, ICD.D


Susan G. Tataryn has been an advisor for almost 20 years to various businesses from small independents to large enterprises, including those in the construction, financial, health care, technology and life science sectors while also working with artists, designers and others in the fashion, entertainment and hospitality industries.

Susan is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan where she obtained Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws degrees. She obtained the Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1990. She was called to the Saskatchewan bar in 1993 and the Ontario bar in 2000.

Her accounting and tax background, including her experience as a clerk to various judges of the Tax Court of Canada, and as tax litigation counsel with the federal Department of Justice enables her to provide unique perspective in business transactions, as well as in litigation. She continues to appear before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court - Trial Division and the Federal Court of Appeal on income tax and GST issues.

Susan has written a number of tax articles and has taught accounting at the University of Saskatchewan and tax at the Law Society of Upper Canada Bar Admission Course. She is a frequent speaker to accountants on current tax law issues.

She co-founded a Capital Pool Company traded on the Toronto Venture Stock Exchange which was bought by Hamilton Thorne, as well as a company providing legal support solutions to sole practitioners and small law firms.

She currently is the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Youth Services Bureau, where she has served for almost 10 years. She previously sat on the Board of Directors of Prevent Cancer Now, the Hills of Erin Cancer Prevention Foundation and Big Brothers and Big Sisters Ottawa.

Priya Chopra, B.Comm.(Hons), JD

Priya ChopraPriya Chopra is an associate lawyer at Tataryn Law. She was called to the Ontario bar in 2019. Prior to joining the firm, Priya assisted with a variety of complex litigation matters at both national and boutique sized firms. Priya currently practices in the areas of tax, trusts, and wills and estates, being primarily involved in tax dispute resolution both at the CRA objections level and at the Tax Court of Canada.

Priya holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa, where she graduated with distinction. She obtained her law degree from Western University. During law school, Priya had the opportunity to volunteer as a case worker at Western Law's Community Legal Services Clinic. She also participated in several mooting competitions and was a member of multiple committees. During her final year of law school, Priya was a co-chair of Western Law's Community Outreach committee where she led a team of students in organizing various initiatives to assist individuals in the community.

Outside of the office, Priya is a member of several professional organizations. In 2020, Priya was elected to be a member on the executive committees of two Ontario Bar Association sections (the Women Lawyer's Forum and the Young Lawyers Division - East). She is also a proud member of Ottawa's local Advocacy Club. Since joining the Advocacy Club in 2019, Priya has assisted the club with organizing events related to networking for young lawyers and advocacy training for law students.

During her free time, Priya loves travelling, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. As a proud Ottawa native, she also enjoys exploring the city and trying out local restaurants.

Heather Della Valle

Law Clerk and Office Manager

Heather is a law clerk/administrator with over twenty years of experience. Heather has acquired and developed expertise with all aspects of Corporate/Business/Tax law practice and the preparation of Wills and Trusts. She has extensive experience in drafting and preparing corporate and commercial documents for tax and corporate planning and maintenance, and purchase and sale of business entities, as well as drafting and preparing various court documents, arranging for filing and issuing of documentation at various government offices.

She is responsible for the day-to-day business of the firm and assists our lawyers and clients in all aspects of our practice.

Heather and her husband, Sam, have been married since 1999 and they have twin teenagers, Anthony and Julia.
